| Group Description: |
. . . for more intimacy and love in your life, for feeling more connected, heard, known and understood, for feeling recognized, needed, valued and appreciated, for learning how to be more spontaneous and authentic, or if you are tired of getting angry too easily, or feeling intimidated by others, and other relationship goals.
What is Group Psychotherapy? It helps you learn how you function in relationships, in ways you might not already know, and whether that helps you get relationship needs met (like those cited above.) Getting needs met is important because they can greatly reduce or eliminate anxiety or depression.
How does it work? In individual therapy, we often find you talking about things going on in your outside life. In group, the same patterns that come up in your personal and business relationships will emerge. We then have the opportunity to intervene "in the moment" to help you better understand your internal experience (thoughts and feelings) and find more effective ways to get you what you want. Group psychotherapy is safe and confidential and you're provided guidance and support.
Why people join psychotherapy groups:
- for more intimate personal relationships
- for more successful work interactions
- to learn how to self-express more fully, creatively and spontaneously
- to reduce inhibitions, shyness, social anxiety, loneliness
- to deal with anger better (alternatives to stuffing it or exploding)
- to learn to stop being too much of a people pleaser and start getting your needs met
- to learn how to set boundaries
- for relationship-related depression or anxiety
Is this group right for me? The right fit is important. Those who are currently in individual therapy or have completed a succesful course of psychotherapy tend to do best. This is because it helps if you've learned to reflect on your own experience and have some ability to talk about your feelings and judgments and "own them." Primary issues such as addictions, eating disorders, etc., or if you've recently been hospitalized, are best dealt with in individucal therapy, or intensive treatment, or in a group focused on the disorder (such as a "depression group" for Major Depressive Disorder) before considering this kind of work.
