Group Name: Group for single / separated / divorced moms
Location: SF Bay Area - CALIFORNIA
City: Albany
Phone: 510-528-9551
Web Page: http://www.yvonnemansell.com
Group Description:

Going through a divorce, or having gotten separated brings so many issues to the table that effect mother and child(ren) deeply.  Often it is difficult to discuss these kinds of topics with friends and family.  Single parenting and co-parenting has its own particular set of challenges (and joys of course), including how to get a break, how to balance work and parenting, how to create community, communication with an ex, dealing with ex-extended family, etc.  Also, being a single parent may mean a higher need for being an effective parent, and having input as to how we can handle common problems or difficult dilemmas may be crucial.

The approach I bring to parenting includes developing mindfulness.  This theme is interwoven in our discussions, finding ways for us to center ourselves, use qualities such as empathy and acceptance, and as much as possible make aware choices, rather than falling into reactive habits.  With all the stressors of change for all involved during separation / divorce, a regular reminder of a mindful approach can be very helpful.

With past groups I have found that mothers are so happy to find others in similar circumstances, and understanding and empathy run deep.  Having been divorced myself, I know this territory and am happy to provide a space for communication, getting more clarity, dealing with questions about parenting, and watching progress along this path.

Groups usually meet in a series of 8 sessions, every other week.  Cost is $312 for the series (or sliding scale if needed).  Please inquire about upcoming openings.

Professional Statement:

Facilitating therapeutic support groups is a very valuable part of my practice.  I love what happens when people are brought together who have some challenges in common, trust is established and connections and understanding is created.  Women excel in offering empathy to each other,  "getting" each other's struggles, delight in sharing victories, form community and learn from each other.  I believe our society lacks places where people can meet for meaningful discussion.  I feel honored to help create these circles.
