Group Description:

Depression and anxiety can improve. Move forward with support. Most members notice some improvement within a few weeks and lasting change over time as they share honestly with others, decrease isolation, and change patterns that feed depression and anxiety. This ongoing group offers support and skill building for members suffering with depression and/or anxiety. I combine interpersonal group conncection in the here and now, with skill development,  cognitive behavioral concepts, mindfulness and the latest reserach on effective mood management.

The group is a welcoming space for diverse members and includes women of color, women who are straight and queer, and women from 30-70 yrs. of age. Women are insightful, supportive and growth oriented.

I specialize in the treatment of depression and group facilitation and have worked for Stanford, Herrick hospital, Family Paths and have done depression management groups for years in my private practice.  If this group might be helpful, please call me for a free phone consultation.

Group meets TUESDAY 1:15-2:45. College Avenue near the Rockridge BART station. $80 (sliding scale available) Openings for two women.

Marianne Gunther-Murphy MFT is one of 1500 Nationally Certified Group Therapists (CGPs) and has facilitated groups for much of her life in agencies, for Stanford University, in hospital settings, schools and in her private practice.  She is committed to group work as an amazing way to deepen the human bond and as a powerful way to help resolve personal suffering, as well as increase the capacity for peace within oneself and in the world. Running groups is one of the joys of Marianne's private practice. She is adept at using a variety of group models to keep a group dynamic, growth oriented and safe for members. Living in Asia, and working for 30 years in Oakland clinics and agencies has given her a broad interest in working with people of diverse cultures. In addition to facilitating groups, seeing couples and individuals in her private practice, she is or has been on the faculty at The Wright Institute, The Psychotherapy Institute, The Women's Therapy Center as well as teaching depression management at Kaiser. She co-founded the Group Therapy Training Program at The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley (TPI) which offers advanced group training for licensed clinicians.
